The exam for certified laboratory equipment specialist is conducted where the candidate becomes a certified laboratory equipment specialist. Here the aim of the test is to provide specialist technology in practical application for equipment handling, upkeep or maintenance as also the laboratory training for certified application in clinic or hospital undertaking.
The eligibility conditions for laboratory equipment specialists exam are minimum eligibility for associate degree in biomedical academic program and two year BMET work experience or US military biomedical equipment technology program and two year BMET work experience, associate degree in electronic technology with three year BMET work experience or a four year full time BMET work experience. Additionally the candidate might have associate degree in medical laboratory technology and three years BMET work experience or bachelors in medical laboratory technology and two years full time BMET work experience. For a full certification the candidate must have 40% of work experience over last two years or 25% over last years in the designated speciality area.
The format of the examination is a full 150 multiple choice question paper for three hours where the successful candidates are those who have correctly answered all of 105 questions. The exam is conducted online as also the fees for the exam is $375. The content of the examination for the certification includes testing subject areas of anatomy and physiology (12%) ,public safety in the healthcare facility(15%), fundamentals of electronics and electricity (15%), healthcare technology function and operation (24%), healthcare technology problem solving (24%)and healthcare information technology (10%).
