The examination for gerontological nutrition exam provides the certification for individual who is then qualified to design, implement and manage safe and effective nutrition strategies for promoting quality of life and health for older adults.

Eligibility For Nutrition Gerontological Exam

The eligibility conditions require individual to have current registered dietitian status with CDR (commission on dietetic registration). The individual must also have maintained registered dietitian status with commission on dietetic registration for a minimum of two years since the original date of examination. The practice experience as registered dietitican must be documented and for 2000hours within the past five years. Certain other qualifications with experience can be also a substitute for the required 2000 hour speciality practice up to maximum 40% (800 hours).

Format Of Nutrition Gerontological Exam

The examination for the gerontological nutrition exam is conducted twice every year and consists of 150  multiple choice questions.  The examination fees  is $ 250. The subject areas in the test are nutrition screening, nutrition data gathering, nutrition data synthesis, nutrition diagnosis, nutrition care plan, nutrition counselling and education, nutrition monitoring and evaluation, foodservice, professional practice. The examination is an equal oppurtunity exam for it does not discriminate between candidates from basis of race, creed, gender, religion, national origin, disability or marital status.
